Newsletter of the St. Louis Triumph Owners Association
The April meeting will be Tuesday evening at 7:00, April 18th, 2000 at McNulty’s at WestPort Plaza.
May & June Meeting
June meeting will be our picnic meeting at Love Park. Where will we be in May? Who knows?
Since your temporary editor does not have time to collect and publish everything that should be included, check with Arlie King (636) 677-0545 for details of any activities not fully covered in the newsletter. Don’t forget our SLTOA web site at: http://www.umsl.edu/~itcbborg/sltoa.htm
Brake Technical Session
We talked about having a Brake rebuild session at Carriage Muffler in Washington, MO on Saturday, May 13, 2000. But Mark Trebacz will be out of town that weekend. The following two weekends are shows at Columbia and Champagne. So at our April meeting we will decide what day to reschedule this event. The new date will be announced in the May newsletter. Technical hint 1: When a rear brake drum is rust frozen to the hub, use a wide screwdriver and pry between the brake plate and the drum to give the drum some outward pressure. Then take a hammer and strike the center face of the drum right next to the hub and between the wheel studs. Repeat this process several times around the drum until it releases. Technical hint 2: Use Casterol LMA GT brake fluid. Other fluids can cause your Gerling rubber seals to fail prematurely. The previous two hints are from TR6 experience. (Creig 636-305-1143)
Fifth Annual Missouri Endurance Rally 24-Hour Challenge, By: Creig Houghtaling
The MG car club sponsored a 1000-mile rally on March 18th and 19th, 2000. The weather was cold and raining and less than ideal, but the challenge was met and completed by five brave teams. As far as the writer knows SLTOA had no Triumph representation. Perhaps by next year we can change that. I for one would love to drive the rally. But I think it would be more fun to make it a team effort. I would like to have one person to co-drive with me in my car. Or I will co-drive with some one else in his car. If I drive my car, I would like to have someone who would be willing to rescue me if my car had mechanical trouble and was not able to finish. And lastly, it would be really fun if there were several people to cheer on one or more competing Triumph teams. Wouldn't it be fun to have a Triumph live up to its name?
Easter Car Show, April 23, 2000
Several Triumphs will be showing at the Horseless Carriage show in Forest Park. If you would like to show with the club, contact Mel Parentin at: (314) 961-8567.
Some Online Places to Buy and Sell Triumphs and Triumph parts
For those of you with access to the internet, you can find almost anything you want relating to Triumphs. Here are a few: The primary place to start is the Vintage Triumph Register home site at www.vtr.org. There you will find many references to suppliers, good technical information, connections to the various mailing lists, and a free classified section where you can buy or sell. You can follow links from VTR and surf for hours and hours on many Triumph related sites. The second biggest online place to buy and sell is Ebay at www.ebay.com. If you search Triumph you will find many hundreds of Triumph cars and parts for sale. And now there is a totally Triumph auction site that is totally free. http://www.ohms.com/cgi-bin/TRauction.cgi Check them out. You might find something you need. Or you might decide to sell something.
The St. Louis Rally Club has invited SLTOA to join them in their many rallys that they organize through out the year. If there is someone who would like to be the focal point for communications between them and us, please contact me, Creig Houghtaling, and I will provide you the information.
