June 2000

June Meeting

The June meeting will be Tuesday evening at 6:00, June 20th, 2000 at DesPeres Park off of Ballas just North of Manchester. The club will be providing hamburgers and brats so please RSVP to Bonnie David no later than Thursday June 15th. That way we can know how much meat to bring. Last year we ran a short. She can be reached at (636) 949-0825. This phone is also Jack and Bonnie David’s business phone. Bonnie or her answering machine answers as Resurfacing Plus. Or you can drop her a note at jdavid@mail.win.org. Leave a message by phone or e-mail telling her how many will be present.

Anyone who has parts for sale can bring them prior to the meeting (starting as early as 5:00 PM) and have them available throughout the evening. If you would like to help get the fires started, this will start around 5:00 PM.

Muffler and Brake Session, June 17

The tech session is finally on! We will stop by Wilson’s on the way. See Robin Borgstede’s meeting minutes below for complete details under June 17.

Jamestown Mall Show

June 10th & 11th was too early for us to organize a show. The show will be August 19th & 20th. They have invited us back under the same terms as last year, so we will need several people to volunteer to show their cars. Please come to the meeting on June 20th for more details. If you can't make the meeting but you can show your car, contact Arlie King (636) 677-0545 to volunteer and for show and time details.

September Car Show: Arlie has had an opportunity to speak with members of the MG club with regard to the Triumph category judging and awards and there will be changes this year (in our favor). More information will be announced as September approaches.

June Meeting — June 20: Joe Mueller has secured a pavilion at DesPeres Park for our June meeting. There will be a swap meet area set up for club members, so take some time to go through your extra bits & pieces and bring them along. VOLUNTEERS are needed to come early and help set up. PLEASE bring a side dish, the club will furnish the meat(dogs, brats), buns, and soft drinks. BRING YOUR CAR if you can. See ya there!

Upcoming Drives: **Arlie suggested that the some of the members get together and form a "Drive" committee — this would have to be a FIRM committed by all involved. If you are interested in starting the committee or volunteering to be on the committee, please let Arlie know.

June 17 —-Tune up at Mark Trebacz (sorry for the spelling) muffler shop in Washington, MO. The tech session will be on brakes & exhaust — Mark has several lifts if you are interested in checking out your car from underneath. We will stop at Dennis Wilson’s place on the way. The plan for lunch is for everyone to chip in and order pizza (or something) and bring your own beverages please — we will bring any left- overs from the June meeting along also. There will be something for the ladies — Washington is brim- ming with antique and "junk" shops so bring your wallet and walking shoes. MEET at 9AM at KMART in EUREKA at MANCHESTER & CLARKSON. We will leave at 9:30 — please be there on time.

June 4— Prairie DeRocher (sorry about the spelling!) first weekend in June — Details coming soon.

July TBD— Roy Matteson & Joan Carroll will sponsor a drive to Ott’s Tavern for their wonderful fish and the fireman’s picnic — Details coming soon.

August TBD— Jack & Bonnie David will sponsor an overnite trip to Hannibal. Details coming soon.

Fall TBD — Jamestown Mall car show. The club will look into the possibility of an auto cross there that weekend also. We had an opportunity to have a car show at the mall in June, but the members decided that June was not going to work out. Not enough time to plan and too many people unable to attend (vacations, etc.) at this time.

Other News: Phone Tree/Email Tree — It was suggested that as a club we establish a phone calling tree for passing information about upcoming events and any changes in plans. Creig Houghtaling suggested an email tree be established also. At the end of the meeting, the details were still sketchy, but the initial plan is for Creig (I think) to email everyone with an email address any information and Arlie will call those who do not. If you are interested in giving your email address to Creig for the club roster and have not already — please let him know at the next meeting or drop him a line at CreigKay@aol.com.

Champagne British Car Festival, By Don Huber

Eight members of our club attended the 9th annual British Car festival held on May 26-29,2000.

Linda and Dave Massey, Joan Carroll and Roy Matteson , Robin and Brian Borgstede, and Sue and Don Huber. The first three couples left on Friday May 26 and drove through rain all the way. Dave drove the TR6; Roy drove the TR8 and Brian Drove the English Saturn. Sue and Don drove up on Sat. The others Dave and Linda went to the Speakeasy on Friday night, Dave dressed the part in his roaring 20s outfit. Roy and Joan had a great fish dinner at a nearby local bar. On sat. Most folks went on the picnic, since Don and Sue did not get there until one o’clock we ate at Juners. Great BBQ for $4.95. That night some went on the pub-crawl. Don a Sue ate at Juners with friends from Champaign…Sunday was the big day for the show under threatening skies, I forgot to mention the downpour sat. Night (my car was parked in the garage). Early Sunday morning I got up and washed the car (tr8) we all then drove around the corner for the judging. There were 184 cars entered in the show. My car one 1st in class (there were three tr7s and three tr8s entered). Judging started at noon and was over by 2pm. We all then went inside at three for the awards just as it started to slightly rain. After the awards we gassed up and started for home at 4:30 PM. I believe everyone had a great time at this year’s show.
