Greetings!
News flash: Polar Bear Run February 2! Meet at 11 AM on the parking lot at the Beaumont/Antire exit off Highway 44. The drive will be about two hours, then we will go to Mel's and Gail's house for chili. If you bring something to share, make sure it is ready to serve with no additional cooking or dishes. Pray to the weather gods!
We finished the year in grand style with our December banquet. Bevo Mill was excellent and we had about 35 participants. Some of us had to rush from one holiday party to another, yet it was not to be missed. I'll highly recommend next year's banquet in advance. Great to see some of our far-flung members. Gary and Karla Fuqua came all the way from Branson. This was their first activity despite club membership for some time. Gary has an enviable collection of cars that includes a number of Triumphs. He suggested a Branson visit for club members this summer.
Joe and Mary Ann Mann came from Pinckneyville. Joe has acquired another Pierce Arrow. The pictures of it were quite excellent. Hopefully, we'll see it during another summer visit to his place. On another subject, don't forget the Chicagoland All British Swap Meet on Feb. 23. This might be a good activity in an otherwise bleak portion of winter. Check the Chicagoland MG website: http://www.chicagolandmgclub.com/swapmeet/index.html.
In other news, "Thoroughbred and Classic Cars" magazine features a TR6 on the cover of the February issue. Actually, it is not a "Bargain for the Brave" as the cover might suggest, but is compared to a Golf GTI and a Capri Mk I. Where they came up with that comparison, I'll never know! Also, the February issue of "Grassroots Motorsports" talks about restoring the performance of a rubber-bumpered MGB through the retro-fitting of earlier model parts. Sections of this article are quite interesting. For instance, they experimented with different kinds of oil in the carb dampers and found good old 30 weight as good as any and better than some of the oils they tried.
Hope you got to drive your Triumphs last Wednesday and Thursday to keep them percolating. I look forward to seeing you members this coming Tuesday!
Happy motoring (stay warm)!

February 2nd -
Polar Bear Run
March 22nd
& 23rd - Eighth Annual Missouri Endurance Rally: I hope everyone has had a good holiday and I hope that
you will have a good New Year too!
Hopefully, you got a bunch of British car parts as gifts and are getting
your cars ready. It's just three short
months until the 2003 driving season is kicked off with the 8th Annual Missouri
Endurance Rally! March 22-23, 2003 starting from here in St Louis. We'll start off at 7 a.m. for the driver's
meeting and odometer check runs. Teams
will have until 9 a.m. the next morning to complete the course with awards
being given out at 10 a.m. The host
hotel will be the same as the last few years - the Red Roof Inn Westport. For reservations, call 314-991-4900.
I have registration forms and
an information sheet I can mail to anyone that needs one. Just e-mail me back at rarushin@up.com and
mgslime@swbell.net, and I'll get it in the mail (or send it to you if you have
Word.)
Also, remember, new this year
is the 1st Ever Mini-Endurance Trial.
Half the distance as the regular rally with just over half the
time. Teams will have to make it to 5
out of the 10 stops for the regular rally and will have until midnight that
night to complete it. Should be a great
way for those who have never attempted a full endurance rally to get their
first taste!
Plus, another new feature
this year is the new rally series which consists of the Missouri Endurance
Rally, the Lap of the Lake Rally, and the Abingdon Endurance Trials. The team covering the least number of total
miles wins the championship!
Please make sure that
newsletter editor has this information listed in your club's newsletter so we
can make this another record year! If
you need any additional information, please contact me.
