Presidential Ramblings, By Craig Madsen

A small group of us made our way to Champagne, mostly an uneventful trip with the exception of rotor trouble with Roy's Healy and yours truly doesn't know when to pull over & get gas. Look for that gas can to surface at the Trash & Treasure Christmas exchange! Overall a very nice time was had by all that attended.

The Spitfire earned its' "Road Warrior" Wings, it sang all the way there and back and beat the living daylights out of me each way. I was wishing I had a different spring rate and a different rear end ratio. Steve and Sandy Street on the other hand had a very leisurely ride in the TR7 - which is a great highway ride as anyone will tell you that owns either a Seven or Eight.

I passed on the pub crawl, but Dave & Carol made us proud and set a new late night record or at least tied the old one! Our club also did well in the awards department - Chris Kresser took 1st in category AND best of show! Paul Schuessler took first in his class with the TR-6. Steve Street & Dave Massey tied for second in the TR7/TR8 category an edict that I understand but don't agree with..... & the Healy Girls took 1st place in the Photo Contest with their 2006 Calendar by a landslide! The Spitfire has yet to find its' "groove", too far along to be a contender in the Diamond in the Rough class, and not far enough along to do any good in the Spitfire class. It doesn't help that it's somewhat confused as to what year it actually is. My fault, and I wouldn't have it any other way! To the relief of myself & the rest of us, the "Blue" interior has almost completely been replaced by an or! iginal Caramel /Tan color. My apologies for putting all of us through that pain. A new pair of jets, floats, & a swap from AAE to AAR needles have brought the SU4 carburetors back into good graces. I tried a set of 2.5 oz. piston springs opposed to the 4 oz. & immediately went too rich. I am going to try a pair of AAL's and then make a choice. Now at least the car is behaving true to it's tradition.

We were blessed with great weather for our Summer Picnic. We had a smaller turnout than I had hoped for though. Hopefully the July meeting At John Lambergs' will break all records. Brief discussion was held about the Club Logo Magnets. The estimates for these are coming in exceedingly high, a recent effort on Roy's' part still came in at about $20.00 each. I think we need to determine if we want this item, & at what price. If we can't get it at a reasonable cost, maybe those that want them can individually purchase them individually with a % subsidy by the club. If we could find a vendor that didn'trequire a 500 count minimum order it would also help. Food for thought.

Along that Food for Thought line of thinking, - mention was made of possibly hosting a VTR in St. Louis... This is a huge amount of work, but can be again further discussed. I used the June picnic to reveal a secret personal ambition of my own. This probably also is a huge amount of work, but the pay off could be equally as big. I would like to see the Triumph folks of the state of Missouri gather together at Lake Ozark or Osage Beach for a show and festivities maybe next June. I thought we could possibly pull from Kansas City, Springfield, Anywhere! I'm going to need contact names of other groups, & volunteers from this one to get it off the ground. So, before the next meeting chew on this idea as well and be prepared to give your input. Remember there are no wrong or right answers, just what you all want to do.

Noticeably absent from our picnic meeting was our Treasure Bonnie David & Secretary Matt Gossett, - Again, when you score Cardinal tickets, they take priority!Bonnie had e-mailed Creig an update I just forgot to get a hold of it and read it, my apologies. I'm sure current numbers are published elsewhere in this newsletter. Matt was in the middle of three family moves and a medical support issue. Funny how we sometimes take these things for granted until they're unexpectedly missing!

Also I've been contacted by the MG club regarding the food vending for the upcoming Creve Cour Car Show. They need a list of people that will be handling the food, and hopefully I'll have something in my mailbox when I get home to fill out to get the ball rolling. There's another item for discussion at the next meeting.††† Surely that's enough to think about ?!

See You @ Johns!†† -†† Craig Madsen
